The open directory project - DMOZ has been closed on 17 March, 2017. It was closed 3 days later than originally planned. It is same as yahoo directory.
It was multilingual open-content directory of World Wide Web links. We heard the new from It was announced on February 28, 2017 that DMOZ would close down on March 14, 2017.
DMOZ was based on the hierarchical ontology scheme for organizing site listings. All Listings are categories properly and grouped with similar topics.
As per Wiki "DMOZ was founded in the United States as Gnuhoo by Rich Skrenta and Bob Truel in 1998 while they were both working as engineers for Sun Microsystems."
